Jeremiah 31:33

I will place my law within them and write in upon their hearts

Translating a text from one language to another involves a willingness to use ones imagination to render as close as possible to intent of the author of the original work. It may an imaginative leap into the mind of the heart of another, one may be far removed in time, place and circumstance. A wealth of knowledge is surely involved, a knowledge that may range from languages to various contexts. Added to all of these is a desire to labor with the kind of love that brings what may seem far away into the realm of the known and familiar.

God has written his law, his very self into the heart of each person who has ever lived. God may seem far and his language hard to pin down. But remember that he writes on the heart. If you move through life with a generous measure of love, the text of God becomes all the more clear. Use well the sense of your own heart to read what you see, and pray over the occasional difficult word that may appear in a hard  to read person or place. These telling words may be the most in need of love to understand them.
